Botting is now illegal in the US

The FTC has prohibited fake reviews and bot followers as part of efforts to combat deceptive advertising…

Today, the phenomenon of view botting is no longer a secret to anyone. Even some top streamers flaunt their massive follower or view counts. But in reality, this often involves purchasing a service that sends bot accounts to artificially inflate their viewership numbers.

This is why some unscrupulous streamers often have a large number of viewers. By intentionally boosting view counts, they artificially increase their reach, whether on Twitch, Kick, or YouTube.

Why do they do it? This allows certain streamers not only to appear more popular in the eyes of viewers and competitors but also to secure lucrative contracts with various organizations.

In fact, fake reviews not only waste people's time and money but also harm the marketplace and unfairly take business away from honest competitors.

However, if a thorough investigation were conducted, it would reveal that these cheaters often have low chat activity or a small number of genuine followers, despite being top-ranked, which seems suspicious at the very least. But how can this be verified?

Until now, there were no effective laws in place to uncover the truth. But now, this may change thanks to new regulations introduced by the FTC.

The Federal Trade Commission has issued a ruling that bans the purchase of AI-generated comments and reviews for products in the United States. It appears that this will also impact the digital entertainment industry, as the addition regarding social media metrics clearly states: “The final rule prohibits anyone from selling or buying fake indicators of social media influence, such as followers or views generated by a bot or hijacked account”.

Essentially, this refers to stream view counts, as esports organizations or companies often tout their overall viewership numbers to potential investors.

What does this mean? It seems that now American streamers who engage in botting will be forced to cease their dishonest practices, as it is now illegal under the new law passed by the government.

We all just have to wait and see. If a streamer's viewership suddenly starts to plummet, it will be a clear indicator of the authenticity of their audience.

P.S. For all streamers, remember not to use services for artificially boosting! Only use legitimate services like Twads.gg...
