Three well-known analysts have shared their opinions on the PS5 Pro, suggesting that Sony's new console may be of little practical use and advocating for a reduction in its price. Why?
Serkan Toto, Michael Wagner, and Daniel Ahmad have stated that Sony's new console will essentially be useless as it will become a niche product, whereas reducing the price of the base console is far more important.
In an interview with IGN, the three well-known video game analysts from Kantan Games, Newzoo, and Niko Partners acknowledged that the PlayStation 5 Pro is a console designed exclusively for enthusiasts. Therefore, it won't be able to shift the current market balance, as Sony will not release a device with a competitive price to attract a wider audience.
In this sense, according to analyst Daniel Ahmad, Sony can only make one move to ensure the second half of the PlayStation 5's lifecycle is more successful: a significant discount on the base console.
Because according to him, production and shipping costs are not decreasing as they did in previous generations, especially for components like SSDs. He explains that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains, causing chip shortages and higher demand for at-home entertainment, which raised costs.
Currently, console makers struggle to maintain profit margins, leading to stable or rising prices in some markets. In fact, Xbox Series S and PS5 Digital Edition were sold at a significant loss from day one, with a focus on disc models to offset losses, preserve margins, and manage external pressures.
In conclusion, Ahmad, Toto, and Wagner stated that Sony should accompany the launch of the PS5 Pro with a price reduction on the current PS5 models, thereby increasing the console's user base.
