Experts determined what PC matches the gaming performance of the PS5 Pro. Building a PC with similar capabilities will require an RTX 4070 graphics card and cost significantly more than $700…
The long-awaited announcement of the PS5 Pro has been quite controversial due to Sony's pricing decision. While the PS4 Pro launched at the same price as the base PS4 ($399), the PS5 Pro is $300 more expensive than the regular PS5, which surprised both fans and analysts (although the latter still believe it will eventually sell as well as the PS4 Pro).
Some gamers have started wondering whether they’d be better off simply buying a new PC. However, in a conversation with IGN, graphics experts from Digital Foundry stated that a PC with performance comparable to the PS5 Pro would be "much more expensive".
Experts said that a gaming PC matching the performance of the PS5 Pro would need an RTX 4070. In the U.S., this graphics card costs around $540. Moreover, none of AMD's existing GPUs would be suitable, as they lack ray-tracing acceleration cores like those in the PS5 Pro. Nvidia, on the other hand, has similar cores.
In addition to the graphics card, other components are needed to build a PC: a processor with a cooling system, a motherboard, RAM, storage, a case, and a power supply. Altogether, this setup would cost over $1,000.
Digital Foundry also believes that the PS5 Pro is designed for PlayStation enthusiasts who already own the base PS5 and have built up an extensive game library. Users who want better graphics and higher FPS will upgrade to the Pro console without incurring huge financial costs.
Sony has confirmed that "40 to 50 games" will be optimized for the new console at launch on November 7. Remasters of The Last of Us Part II, Spider-Man 2, and other titles optimized for the PS5 Pro will feature a PS5 Pro Enhanced label, highlighting improvements such as higher resolution and frame rates.
P.S. As for the next generation, the PS6 release is expected around 2028. Meanwhile, according to rumors, Microsoft plans to release the next generation of Xbox a year or two earlier than Sony, aiming to replicate the success of the Xbox 360, meaning as early as 2026…
